Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse des lendemains du 11 septembre 2001 ou encore de la grande r\u00e9cession de 2008, nous avons beaucoup appris en surmontant ces temp\u00eates. Un leadership fort et la r\u00e9silience organisationnelle ont aid\u00e9 les organismes caritatifs \u00e0 pers\u00e9v\u00e9rer \u00e0 travers ces p\u00e9riodes difficiles dans le pass\u00e9 et leur permettront de le faire de nouveau cette fois-ci. Et deuxi\u00e8mement, probablement le meilleur conseil g\u00e9n\u00e9ral que l\u2019on puisse donner est que les organismes se doivent d\u2019\u00eatre pr\u00eats et en mesure de r\u00e9pondre, tout en ne c\u00e9dant pas \u00e0 la panique.<\/p>\n<p>En ce sens, nous produisons une s\u00e9rie de bulletins pour vous orienter et conseiller de fa\u00e7on opportune et pertinente sur comment r\u00e9agir et o\u00f9 mettre l\u2019accent pour mieux maintenir le cap dans cette situation en constante \u00e9volution, et ce, tout en maintenant l\u2019\u00e9lan de vos programmes et de vos activit\u00e9s de collecte de fonds. Bien qu\u2019il soit important d\u2019\u00e9viter les communications non n\u00e9cessaires, il est aussi imprudent de demeurer silencieux. En mati\u00e8re de communications, la meilleure chose est de se laisser guider par le principe du \u00ab besoin de savoir \u00bb. Dans l\u2019imm\u00e9diat, cela implique d\u2019informer vos parties prenantes de tout changement dans votre fa\u00e7on de travailler et d\u2019interagir avec elles. Et quand vous pensez communications, n\u2019oubliez pas vos employ\u00e9s. Les parties prenantes internes veulent toujours \u00eatre inform\u00e9es, et en cette p\u00e9riode d\u2019incertitude, ce besoin est encore plus grand.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Continuer sur sa lanc\u00e9e.<\/strong> Ce que nous entendons de nos clients et autres organismes est que, m\u00eame s\u2019ils proc\u00e8dent \u00e0 des ajustements, ils cherchent le plus possible \u00e0 maintenir le cap. \u00c9vitez l\u2019annulation en bloc de vos plans et activit\u00e9s de collectes de fonds et cherchez plut\u00f4t \u00e0 ajuster et \u00e0 adapter vos rencontres, vos \u00e9v\u00e9nements et vos activit\u00e9s en tenant compte des conditions locales.<br \/>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Nous savons par exp\u00e9rience qu\u2019en situation de ralentissement \u00e9conomique, les organismes qui ont cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 continuer sur leur lanc\u00e9e et \u00e0 maintenir un certain \u00e9lan s\u2019en sont sortis avec beaucoup plus de succ\u00e8s, tandis que ceux qui ont fait marche arri\u00e8re ont constat\u00e9 qu\u2019ils avaient perdu beaucoup de terrain.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Commencer \u00e0 planifier divers sc\u00e9narios.<\/strong> Une priorit\u00e9 imm\u00e9diate devrait \u00eatre d\u2019initier la planification de divers sc\u00e9narios. Utilisant ces mod\u00e8les, commencez aussi \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir aux ramifications et aux r\u00e9ponses pertinentes pour chacun de ceux-ci.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Prise de d\u00e9cision r\u00e9fl\u00e9chie et mesur\u00e9e.<\/strong> Nonobstant le conseil de commencer \u00e0 planifier des sc\u00e9narios, m\u00e9fiez-vous de la tendance d\u2019adopter sans m\u00e9nagement une strat\u00e9gie de coupures et de recul. Nous savons par exp\u00e9rience que cette approche peut avoir des cons\u00e9quences tr\u00e8s n\u00e9gatives \u00e0 long terme. Bien qu\u2019il soit utile de d\u00e9velopper divers mod\u00e8les, il est beaucoup trop t\u00f4t pour prendre des d\u00e9cisions. Surveillez plut\u00f4t l\u2019\u00e9volution des choses et identifiez lequel de vos sc\u00e9narios devient alors valide. Les bonnes d\u00e9cisions strat\u00e9giques se prennent rarement rapidement ou sont rarement bas\u00e9es sur l\u2019instinct; donnez-vous le temps n\u00e9cessaire pour bien \u00e9valuer vos options et d\u00e9cider des bonnes prochaines \u00e9tapes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>Leadership et donner le ton.<\/strong> Le conseil le plus important en ce moment touche le leadership et le ton. Que ce soit \u00e0 l\u2019interne avec les employ\u00e9s ou \u00e0 l\u2019externe avec les donateurs et les parties prenantes, il est essentiel de rester calme et d\u2019inspirer confiance dans votre capacit\u00e9 d\u2019affronter la temp\u00eate. De plus, il est recommand\u00e9 d\u2019adopter une approche dite juste \u00e0 temps en mati\u00e8re de strat\u00e9gie et d\u2019affectation des ressources. Ainsi, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de direction de l\u2019organisation pourrait opter pour des r\u00e9unions hebdomadaires, voire quotidiennes, auxquelles tous participeraient pour partager l\u2019information et prendre des d\u00e9cisions op\u00e9rationnelles rapides.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Parlant de donner le ton, il est aussi tr\u00e8s important de ne pas r\u00e9agir trop fortement. as organizations and professionals should be doing in our own response to it.<\/p><p>First thing to remember is that we\u2019ve been here before.\u00a0 Whether it be the aftermath of 9\/11 or the Great Recession of 2008, we have many learnings from weathering previous storms.\u00a0 Strong leadership and organizational resilience have helped charitable organizations persevere through challenging times in the past and they will do so again this time around.<\/p><p>And secondly, likely the best guidance overall is for organizations to prepare and respond, but not panic.<\/p><p>To help you do that, we will be creating a series of bulletins to provide timely advice and guidance about how to navigate this situation as it evolves, while continuing to maintain momentum in your fundraising programs and activities. Building on learnings from having managed through previous periods of economic stress and crisis, we will share insights and information on good practices as well as provide links to helpful resources.<\/p><p>As we find ourselves in this very early stage, we want to focus on the immediate and provide some guidance related to what you are likely dealing with now and over the next few days.<\/p><ol><li><strong>Working remotely.<\/strong> One of the most immediate changes that we\u2019ve seen is the need for employees to work from home for a period of time. While we generally have a culture and capacity to work in this way, for many it will be new.\u00a0 For some guidance and advice on how to manage staff remotely and help employees successfully work from home, our Search + Talent team has pulled together a couple of articles with some helpful tips and information:<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/worklife\/article\/20200312-coronavirus-covid-19-update-work-from-home-in-a-pandemic\">Coronavirus: How to Work from Home, the Right Way - BBC Worklife<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbescoachescouncil\/2018\/05\/30\/top-15-tips-to-effectively-manage-remote-employees\/#3f8e66d8503c\">Top 15 Tips to Effectively Manage Remote Employees - Forbes<\/a><\/p><ol start=\"2\"><li><strong>Stakeholder communication.<\/strong> All of us are receiving emails from every organization we\u2019ve ever interacted with to tell us how they are responding. While it\u2019s important not to communicate unnecessarily, it is also unwise to remain silent. When thinking of your communication strategy, best to be guided by the notion of communicating on a \u201cneed to know\u201d basis.\u00a0 In the immediate term, that likely does mean letting your community of stakeholders know of any changes to how you are working and interacting with them.\u00a0 And when thinking of communication, don\u2019t forget your staff. Internal stakeholders are generally eager for information and during times of uncertainty, this inclination is magnified.<\/li><\/ol><ol start=\"3\"><li><strong>Continue to drive forward.<\/strong> We are hearing from clients and other organizations that while they are making adjustments, they are also trying, as much as a possible, to adopt a \u201cbusiness as usual\u201d approach. Avoid wholesale cancellation of your fundraising plans and activities and rather seek to adjust and adapt meetings, events, and activities to reflect local circumstances. We know from previous experience with downturns that those who continued to drive forward and maintain some degree of momentum emerged much more successfully, while those that dialed things back found they had lost significant ground.<\/li><\/ol><ol start=\"4\"><li><strong>Begin scenario planning.<\/strong> An immediate focus should be to be initiate scenario planning. Create a series of models that reflect a variety of revenue scenarios (three is a good number \u2013 Best, Likely, Worst). A key part of this planning should be to look at each of your programs and major gift prospects to identify areas of risk.\u00a0 Using these models, also begin to think about the corresponding ramifications and responses to each.<\/li><\/ol><blockquote><p>We know from previous experience with downturns that those who continued to drive forward and maintain some degree of momentum emerged much more successfully, while those that dialed things back found they had lost significant ground.<\/p><\/blockquote><ol start=\"5\"><li><strong>Thoughtful and measured decision making.<\/strong> Notwithstanding the advice to begin scenario planning, beware the tendency to bluntly adopt a \u201ccut and retreat\u201d strategy.\u00a0 We know from experience that this approach can have very negative ramifications in the long term. While good to begin modelling, it\u2019s far too early to make decisions.\u00a0 Rather, see how things play out and identify which scenario becomes valid as they do.\u00a0 Good strategic decisions are rarely made quickly or based on gut instinct, so give sufficient time to carefully consider options and the right next steps.<\/li><\/ol><ol start=\"6\"><li><strong>Leadership and setting the tone.<\/strong> Perhaps the most important advice right now relates to leadership and tone. Whether internally with staff or externally with donors and other stakeholders, it\u2019s critical to remain calm and project confidence in your ability to weather this storm. In addition, a \u201cjust-in-time\u201d approach to strategy setting and resource allocation is advisable. As a result, senior management of the organization may want to have weekly or even daily \u201call hands on deck\u201d meetings to exchange information and make fast operational decisions. And finally, from CNN Business here is a great story on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/03\/15\/perspectives\/leadership-ceo-coronavirus-outbreak\/index.html\">how to be a leader during times of crisis<\/a> from two people who know what that\u2019s like.<\/li><\/ol><p>Related to the idea of setting the tone, it\u2019s also critically important not to overreact. To build on the saying from that famous WWII poster, this is a time to <strong>\u201cKeep Calm (While Doing the Right Things at the Right Time) and Carry On\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p><p>We look forward to
