Celebrating Talent:
Peter B. Weizenbluth
As Canada’s leading consultancy to the non-profit sector, at KCI we measure our success through the success of our clients. It’s energizing to look back at 20 years of KCI Search + Talent candidate ‘placements’ to see what the leaders we’ve placed have accomplished for organizations all across our country.
It’s also gratifying to see that many people ‘placed’ by KCI have stayed and thrived in their roles long past the average tenure that we see in the sector. These are people whose loyalty, expertise, and passion for the mission drives long-term impact for their organizations, and the people and communities they serve.
We are celebrating these individuals through this ‘Celebrating Talent’ series of short profiles and interviews. We hope you enjoy reading about these inspiring sector leaders and celebrating their success along with us!
Celebrating Peter B. Weizenbluth, Chief Financial Officer, Campfire Circle
Why did you originally consider joining Campfire Circle?
After my eldest daughter went through a pediatric cancer journey, our family experienced Campfire Circle firsthand. We saw how joy, connection, and healing can exist alongside treatment – not just for kids, but for families as well. That experience stayed with me. When the opportunity later arose to join the organization, it felt like a meaningful way to give back to a community that had already given us so much.
What’s kept you with Campfire Circle for 8+ years?
The mission, first and always, but also the people. Campfire Circle is a community of deeply committed staff, volunteers, families, and supporters who believe in what’s possible for kids facing serious illness. The culture is one where people care deeply, challenge each other respectfully, and show up fully. It’s an environment that continually pushes me to grow and to do better for the kids and families we serve.
What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time there?
I’m most proud of what we’ve accomplished together. That includes supporting the coming together of Camp Ooch and Camp Trillium into Campfire Circle, navigating the uncertainty of the pandemic while continuing to serve families, and helping lay foundations for long-term sustainability and growth. None of this happens without the trust and dedication of families, donors, volunteers, staff, and our board – it’s truly a collective effort.
What’s next for Campfire Circle? What do you want people to know about the work you do?
Campfire Circle is working toward its most ambitious goal yet: tripling our impact to reach more than 10,000 kids and families across Ontario by 2030. That means expanding programs for children with other serious illnesses, strengthening hospital and community-based support, and building a second medical camp in Prince Edward County. At its core, our work is about ensuring no child or family faces serious illness alone, and that joy and belonging remain part of the journey.
One piece of career advice you’d give to others?
Focus on steady progress over perfection. Small, consistent actions – building trust, improving how teams work together, and leaning into discomfort when growth is needed -add up over time. Effectiveness, humility, and care for people will take you further than always needing to be “right.”
