Cenovus Energy Inc. has pledged to give $10,000,000 per year over the next 5 years to help build Indigenous housing in Chipewyan Prairie Dene First Nation, Beaver Lake Cree Nation, Chard Metis (Local 218), Cold Lake First Nations, Conklin Métis (Local 193) and Heart Lake First Nation. The program could be extended by five years with an additional $50 million if it meets Cenovus’s performance expectations.

This gift will support both Cancer Care and the Our Hearts at Home Cardiovascular Fundraising Campaign in memory of Anne and Samuel Patrick Bachinski and their granddaughter Susan Jane Anne Drindak. 15 years ago, the mother (Anne) died of cancer and the father (Samuel Patrick) died of cardiovascular disease within the same year. Both were treated at the hospital. Their granddaughter, Susan, died just after her 7th birthday of arthritis. The donation was made by the entire family, including Marian Boxer, Linda Drindak and her husband Paul, Sam Bachinski and his wife Margot Freitag and their two children, Mitchell and Claudia.
