For student support. The gift was bequeathed, and is the largest gift ever made to the university in support of students.

For an endowment fund that will be used for research, collections acquisitions, and exhibit replacements. Manitoba Museum Founders Fund in Honour of James W. Burns, a former founding member of the museum who recently died. The endowment was established with $350,000 including the gift from the Burns Family.
