Ian Telfer performed the ceremonial coin toss to open the Panda Game, the annual football game between the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Telfer is donating the 22-lbs gold coin used to the University, which is valued at $750,000.

The Bob and Sue Verwey Family Foundation announced it would match donations up to $1,000,000 to Lakeridge Health Foundation’s Our Cancer Campaign, in support of a new Centre of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.

Donation will support newly launched research awards and fellowships focused on sustainability in the areas of urban development, water, energy, transportation infrastructure, environmental protection of oceans and waterfronts, and resource-intensive industry at the University. Funds will come from the Peter Wall Legacy Fund, for up to $4,000,000 per year.
