Diego and Sandra are founders of SanDiego Homes, a leading home builder in Simcoe County. The couple hosted a fundraiser at one of their show homes which raised $30,000 for the centre.

The money was donated from the net proceeds of Blizzard Treat sales during Miracle Treat Day at DQ locations owned by the Hamill family in Red Deer, Alberta. The town has a population of approximately 100,000.

To support the school of business. A portion of the donation will also be applied to the college’s new Sports Park at the South Windsor Campus. Gift will be designated as the Zekelman School of Business & Information Technology; a tennis complex will also bear the Zekelman name. This is the largest single donation in the college’s half-century long history.

Allan Carswell and the Carswell Family Foundation

York University

To create an endowed chair dedicated to science engagement and outreach. It will benefit students and the public through education and activities, involving telescopes at the Allan I. Carswell Observatory, as well as novel technologies such as virtual reality. The endowment will also support the York Science Communicator in Residence program to enhance student learning opportunities in science communications. Gift will be designated as The Allan I. Carswell Chair for the Public Understanding of Astronomy. York University will match the $1.5 million gift from the Carswell Family Foundation for a total of $3 million.
