In response to COVID-19, Loblaws will provide $5 million in gift cards to various food banks and community charities, including Food Banks Canada, Second Harvest, Community Food Centres Canada, and others.

Second Harvest’s FoodRescue.ca is launching $4.5 million in new funding for communities. The new grants will support organizations across the country to ensure food makes its way to Canadians who need it most in response to COVID-19.

To support the organizations’ national programs and their increased needs due to COVID-19.

To fund Professor Donald Sheppard and his team’s research into medical treatment options for COVID-19.

To support 73 organizations across Quebec that help at-risk children across the province get access to physical activity. The funds will help ensure that organizations impacted by COVID-19 will be able to stay afloat until their programs can resume.

To create new student counsellor positions and a digital virtual care tool to meet the mental health needs of students entering co-operative work placements.

To support Food Depot Alimentaire’s programs, which serve food banks across New Brunswick.

To support The Alex Community Food Centre in Calgary, Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Centre in Toronto and DiverseCity Community Resources Society in Surrey BC, as well as many other organizations in their network.

Over the coming weeks and months, Sun Life will provide financial aid to charities in the markets in which we operate. Support will be provided to organizations addressing urgent health concerns, with a focus on support for at-risk populations such as the elderly, and access to food through local food banks.

To support the organization’s Response and Emergency Management Programs for COVID-19 Relief.

To help provide food to vulnerable individuals and families impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

To support support five key areas directly related to COVID-19, including: distributing emergency supplies; providing emotional and psychosocial support via phone and referring Canadians to mental health care; exploring a potential role in training for essential frontline personnel on the use of masks, gloves and gowns; supporting the distribution of financial assistance to those eligible through government programs in Quebec and New Brunswick, and; providing key information and referrals to available assistance.

To support the organizations’ national programs and their increased needs due to COVID-19. Subway will also donate $2 from every delivery purchase to a maximum of $650,000, and has committed to donating $50,000 of Subway products to local communities across the nation.

This gift, along with a $300,000 commitment from the London Community Foundation, will provide a central location for philanthropists, corporations, individuals and families to support immediate needs in our community that have emerged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This donation will be split between 4 organizations for COVID-19 response: Centraide of Greater Montreal’s Emergency Fund; Canadian Red Cross, for its Community Support Services; Little Brothers, who work with the elderly in need; Tel-jeunes, which provides free counselling services, and; Alloprof, which provides educational support services for parents.

To support the organizations’ COVID-19 Relief Efforts, each of the following shelters will receive $50,000: Le Bon Dieu Dans la Rue, Old Brewery Mission, Sun Youth, The Salvation Army, and Welcome Hall Mission.

To support United Way Centraide Canada’s national fund to help the most vulnerable populations receive critical community services and support during this global crisis. Additionally, 100,000 rolls of Cottonelle® and 10,000 Kleenex® facial tissue boxes will be donated through
local United Way Centraides across Canada to help those in their communities who require essential products most.
